Patrick Alan Gilliland

Patrick Alan Gilliland was born January 14, 1950 at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa to Winifred and Ella Gilliland. He passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014. Pat graduated from Edison High School; attended Central State College and North Texas State University. He moved to Lake Tahoe, Nevada where he spent the next nine years. He worked in photography at various casinos before opening his own photography studio.

Patrick eventually moved back to Dallas where he met his wife, Maureen. He became Lab Manager for Landis Aerial Photography where he worked successfully for 23 years. During this time they gave birth to two wonderful boys, Matthew (1985) and Peter (1991).

Four years ago Patrick returned to Tulsa where he continued aerial photography development through government contract. Patrick loved travel as a youth and because his father was employed by American Airlines, weekends would find Pat flying all over the country. His spirit of adventure found him at the World’s Fair and Times Square for New Year’s on his own at 16.

He loved and thirsted for knowledge. He never tired of sharing this with family and friends. With this technical knowledge he built computers for his whole family. All who knew Patrick loved him. He had no enemies and always tried to get his fellow man to look at the other side; albeit philosophical, religious or political. Patrick was a very happy man who loved his family more than life.

He is survived by: his wife, Maureen; sons, Matthew of Austin, Texas, and Peter of Tulsa; his sister, Judy Phillips and his niece, Shannon Paynter. A Memorial service will be held to celebrate Patrick’s life on his birthday, January 14th, 2:00pm at Hope Unitarian Church, 84th and Sheridan.

Please take a moment and share a memory and/or your condolences on our online guestbook.

I was in Pat's high school graduation class. I remember Pat being a happy young man. I also remember that he was friendly to everyone. I am sorry to hear of his passing, and would like for his family to know what a "nice guy" Pat was. Sincerely, Betsy Pratt Long
