R. Dwayne Conner

CONNER, ROLLO DWAYNE, 74, Tulsa, OK, died October 9, 2012 at his home in Tulsa. He had been struggling with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia for over three years.

Dwayne was born August 22, 1938, in Pryor, OK, eldest son of Rollo and Clema Conner. He was a retired Methodist minister who had remained active continuing to preach and support both church and pastoral development. He received his B.A. from the University of Tulsa, and his theological degrees, a Masters of Divinity and a Ph.D. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

He had over 40 years of experience serving as pastor and teaching as a professor at University and Seminary levels. He made several contributions to various publications and was very active in denominational activities and on several district committees. He was a member of the Order of Saint Luke, and had been an Elder in the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church since 1998.

Dwayne married Ruthann Corlett on June 12, 1964. They were married forty-four years and partnered in pastoral ministry. Dwayne is survived by his daughter, Bethann Conner, Tulsa, OK; and four siblings: Gary Conner and his wife, Janie, Fairland, OK; Spencer Conner and his wife, Trish, Sapulpa, OK; Lana Shanks and her husband, Jerry, Claremore, OK; and Mike Conner, Owasso, OK. Dwayne was preceded in death by his wife, Ruthann Corlett Conner, and his parents.

Dwayne will be remembered for his loving spirit, dedication, gregariousness, and passion for ministry. He has touched the lives of countless children, youth, and adults, and was the embodiment of God’s love.

His body has been cremated and a Memorial Service of Death and Resurrection will be held on October 20, 2012, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Tulsa, OK.
